Cortina, Italy is one of the most beautiful winter resorts in the world.  They hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1956.  It is well known for its mountains and their climbers, specially the first historic ones.  But the importance of snow and skiing does not come second.

The first competition took place in 1900, the Sci Club Cortina was founded in 1903, and has given to the Italian sport scene several great champions of world fame.  Cortina is superb for its snow and the slopes which are extremely varied - easy, medium, difficult and even daring, like the Canalone at Cristallo and the many off-piste opportunities, at their best at the end of the season.  There are several chairlifts located all around the town and two cable cars reach Faloria and Ra Valies, close to 3000 meters, in an environment rich of magic.

The local skiing is extensive and varied and other resorts such as S. Cassino and Corvara in the Dolomiti Superski area are easily reached  from the Falarego pass.  There are several high-level, sunny terraces with no less than 25 mountain restaurants and there is virtually no queueing or congestion on the slopes during the week for the keen skier.  Cortina's attractive traffic-free central zone has many elegant shops and the resort offers numerous activities including many for the non-skier.
